A Much Bigger Reason

If you are new here, let me introduce myself. My name is Madison, and I currently live and work full-time in Guatemala with a nonprofit organization/ministry called, Sin Limites. I am their program coordinator and if you are new here, please check out my first blog

Since October 26, 2022, I have called Guatemala my home. For the past three years, I have written blogs about my journey and what I’ve learned. There have been highs and lows, but overall, God is so good, kind, and faithful.

A Quick Recap

As I mentioned earlier, I never pictured being a full-time missionary.

I traveled to Guatemala in 2018 with my family and that trip had a huge impact on my life… Graduated college in December of 2020 and in September of 2021, I traveled back to Guatemala to study Spanish in an immersion school. I thought I’d be there for three months, then travel back to the U.S and get my “big girl” job, because that’s the norm and the route everyone expects you to take.

Well, that didn’t happen because I ended up extending my stay in Guatemala until June of 2022. During that time, I volunteered with Sin Limites and it absolutely changed my life. I felt as if I had found my passion and it was not working an occupational therapy assistant. They offered me a position in the summer of 2022 and I happily accepted it.

With the rest kind of being history.

A Much Bigger Reason

The What Ifs

These past few months, I’ve been looking back and reflecting on my life. Majority of the time, I just sit back and think wow!

You know, there were times where I questioned, “What would things look like for me if I would’ve stayed in the United States? Would I still live in my hometown? What would my career look like? Would I have gotten Gabby, (my dog) a sibling? Would I have encountered another dream?”

I think those questions are valid and they will always be in the back of my head. I’m sure friends and family members might ask those same questions.

But now, I ask myself, “What if I hadn’t taken this leap of faith and moved to Guatemala full-time.”Because for the last year, I’ve felt that God has shown me that I’m in Guatemala for a much bigger reason. He isn’t just using me in the mission field with Sin Limites… He’s using me in every interaction I have, whether that’s families and friends in Guatemala or the United States.

A Much Bigger Reason

In Conclusion

I never thought my life would end up like this, but I’m grateful it did. God deserves all of the praise and glory!

Because I’m just a girl who was adopted from Guatemala, raised in North Carolina, and later decided to move back to Guatemala. Now I have the opportunity to share my stories and testimonies of how God has changed my life and the lives of others.

Romans 8:28- “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
