2023

I think like for a lot of people, 2023 was a year full of surprises and probably did not go the way you wanted or expected. But it could have still been a good year depending on your perspective.

At the beginning of 2023, I would have never imagined that I would be where I am today. But I am genuinely happy with where I am at in my life. Certainly, a lot of changes have happened for me this year, but I continue to be grateful for all that I’ve experienced.

What did I experience in 2023?

I was fortunate enough to be able to travel home three times this year. Each time I was home, it was certainly busy and many of my days were occupied, but I felt so much love! Because, a lot of family, friends, and family friends wanted to see me and ask about my life in Guatemala.

My mom was able to travel to Guatemala twice and experience what a day in my life looks like here. She experienced some chaotic days, and a lot of times told me, “I don’t know how you do this every day. I’m already tired.” But I explain to her, “Yes, it’s tiring and mentally/physically draining sometimes, but it’s all worth it in the end.” She was able to visit the village where I work a lot and meet a lot of kids. She can navigate her way through Antigua and has encountered some of her favorite restaurants/cafes. Although, she continues to rely on me for translation, she seems to think I’m bilingual or something, hahaha! But I know there are a lot of more trips to Guatemala in her future!!

Living in Antigua, Guatemala can be hard at times and if you are asking how, I can easily explain. It is one of the most beautiful cities that I have ever lived in with cobblestone streets and simply having everything within walking distance. It is a wonderful place to visit, but it can be a difficult place to permanently live in. With rent being expensive (depending on where you live), a party/night life atmosphere, and limited access to things, you can easily find yourself lost here.

But having close friends who look out for you and want the best for you helps a lot. It could be going to church, going on coffee/lunch dates, going on walks, or simply playing cards. Those are the friendships that are genuine.

With my work this past year, I have learned a lot! There were a lot of happy times, love shown, love given, testimonies, and eye-opening moments that I experienced with the people in the village. There are a lot of families and kids that mean a lot to me and will forever have a special place in my heart. Even though all jobs have challenges, my peace comes from knowing that I work for the Lord.

Colossians 3:23-24 – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

What I’m looking forward to in 2024

As 2024 is quickly approaching, there are already several things that I’m looking forward to!

With one being, my family will be visiting Guatemala. That’s right, my mom, dad, and brother! My dad and brother are going to get a chance to see me work in action, love on the kids in the village, meet my friends, and experience a little bit of my life. That’s what I’m looking forward to most.

I’m looking forward into diving a little bit more into my culture. The last few months, I have had the opportunity to dive into more of the Guatemalan family lifestyle, the food, and more slang words. Little by little, I’m learning how to cook the traditional food, but still have miles to go. I’m grateful to be given this opportunity as it is a reminder of where I come from.

I’m also looking forward to continue my work in the village of Vuelta Grande with Sin Limites. No matter what obstacles I may encounter, I continue to know my passion as I continue to work for the Lord. Like I mentioned in my previous blog post, God will continue to provide and meet my needs. No matter how much I stress out about money or how I will pay something, His work has never failed, and He never will.

2023

Truth!

There may be several months that go by without me writing a blog post. But when I finally come up with a topic, I write it from the bottom of my heart. I love sharing my journey and life updates through my blogs!

Once again, I would like to say thank you for all the love and support in 2023!

I can’t wait to see what 2024 brings as well as for you and your family.

XOXO,

Madison Archer
