Like I mentioned in my last blog post, I volunteered with the nonprofit organization of Sin Límites throughout my time in Guatemala.
Sin Límites is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works in a remote village in Guatemala named Vuelta Grande. It is located about 30 minutes away from Antigua in the mountains.
Sin Límites is Spanish for “without limits”, meaning God’s love, grace, and mercy are without limits.
Their number one goal is to building relationships with the people in order to share the gospel of Christ with them.
Background Information
When my family and I visited Guatemala in 2018, we met the founder of Sin Límites. At that time, the founder was a facilitator with our travel group and worked at an orphanage in Guatemala.
We continued to stay in contact through the years with social media.
He and his wife felt led to start the organization of Sin Límites and minister to the people of Vuelta Grande. At that time, no other organization served the village.
Thankfully with the help from God, in 2020, Sin Límites was registered as a stateside nonprofit organization.
Meeting the Organization
My mom and brother planned a trip to Guatemala to visit me in November of 2021.
During that time, we connected with another woman (was on our Ties trip) and she was a board member of Sin Límites. She offered for us to spend one day with the ministry in the village. We played soccer and helped feed the families in the village.
The Saturday after my family left, I helped Sin Límites carry wood to the village for a house that was about to be built.
And that is when it all started.
Since I was not in the United States for Christmas, I joined Sin Límites at their annual Christmas celebration. It was surely cold, but the warmth and smiles the kids displayed made it all worth it.
As I continued to extend my stay in Guatemala, I volunteered weekly.
Even though I am Guatemalan, I had to explain to everyone that I did not speak Spanish fluently, but was learning. Everyone on the Sin Límites team and in the village understood and helped me.
I started to build relationships with the children and spend time with them by playing soccer, games, or creating crafts. Each time I was in the village, I would always learn and witness something new.
Majority of the homes in Vuelta Grande are mostly one room with a dirt floor and metal walls/roofs. They do not have running water and the electricity is limited. The bathrooms are located outside with a toilet seat. There are kitchens located inside, but there was one kitchen located outside that had sticks to hold a black tarp (to prevent the rain from entering).
As cliché as this sounds, everyone in the village was happy no matter what they did or didn’t have. They were and continue to be thankful to God for waking up each day to be able to work and provide for their families.
Programs offered by Sin Límites
As of right now, Sin Límites offers three main programs to help the people in Guatemala.
The first is food security. The second is home building. And the third is their soccer outreach program.
As the organization continues to grow by the grace of God, the leaders and volunteers will continue to make an impact on the citizens of Guatemala.
